Last Thursday we held the first Locution of the 2010-2011 school year. Locution is the MFA program’s informal monthly reading series at the venerable Pulpfiction Books on Main Street, which gives students a chance to read beside more experienced readers and even the occasional big wig–last year we featured Maisonneuve editor Carmine Starnino and and Giller Prize winner Joseph Boyden.

This year’s inaugural event featured Lee Henderson, author of The Man Game and The Broken Record Technique. Award-winning Kaitlin Fontana read a piece in honour of Elvis Costello; Andrea Bennett brought out a selection of her prose poems, including a memorable piece about Justin Beiber; Ben Rawluk made everyone squirm by showing us the sexy side of sci-fi; and Kevin Spenst showed us that tweeting could be art.

Look for details about the next Locution in coming weeks.
